I'm way too chicken to work without a safety net

Although yesterday I booted into XP to fix my system clock, and then realised I'd missed the chance to learn how to do that in linux Pity.
meh, just get rid of XP. i had a bad experience with debian, but it'll remain close to my heart as the distro i erased win2000 for brings a tear to this old man's eye.

if you can do everything that you NEED to do in linux, then use that. that way you'll learn how to do everything the linux way
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

My wife's laptop has XP. I finally got her on Firefox and I am trying to make the shift to Linux. Same deal, she'll use my Linux box and can't log on to Hotmail or some crap, run and get the XP laptop because "it's better and always works", and I laugh as Hotmail dosen't work there either. :P Way cool...
Although Hotmail works just find in Opera (I haven't tried my old account in Firefox), if you did need IE, the 16-bit version of 5 works great under Wine.
mmm I think Firfox has an extension to view IE site´s .. I have to check to be 100% sure ..

    and Lol @ google earth..

I have a sperate pc with windows XP ... I rarely use it .. the rest of the family (I´m 17) uses that pc ...

I only play games on windows XP .. that´s it.

I think the best reason not to delete windows is simply flexibility.

I mean, why not keep a parition with it on there? I mean, today's hard drives have tons of space and are cheap, so what does it hurt? Just because you have a windows partition, doesn't mean you have to use it and if you are anything like me, it is not like I only have 5 MB of space available on my drives:)

Worst case scenario, you never use it and it takes up 5-10 GB of space...whoopee:) Best case scenario, it saves you having to install it if you have some odd occurence when you need it...

To me, it simply makes good sense to cover your bases and be flexible...you never know when you might need a windows partition for some weird program you end up liking (or needing to use)!

because certain people are used to a certain lifestyle, you would not want to be responsible for helping to financially strain on of the most monopolistic corporations in recent history, now would you?

When I purchase my latest machine I simply installed FC4 and nothing else. I get everything I need with Linux so I don't need Windows. Nor BSD or any other OS for that matter. If people have a need for XP then install it.

I am going to investigate Ubuntu, however since one should always be open to new things.

good comments everyone, i agree with most of them

yes i think the general idea here is quite right-
i mean i was once at the stage where i was saying
DOWN WITH m$ I'LL NEVER USE THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN...

But when I began actually working with school and university servers I began to realize it pays be compatible in todays IT world, you must have some grasp on m$ products to get by. Yes linux is expanding at a rapid rate, but to get by in today's IT we need to be flexible.

My attitude towards m$ has changed a bit but the original concepts are still there...
-Yes Microsoft have a large amount of problems, but their EVERYWHERE!
-Linux is being incorporated into some businesses (quite slowly), realistically being able to incorporate linux in appropriate microsoft situations can be more constructive and prove to people that linux has what it takes to overtake m$ in most instances, but *sigh* in its entirety having an open mind can give you the edge.... just my view... take it or hate it

but in relation to your question, give you a reason not to erase windows?
well theirs the obvious fact (which people have already mentioned) is that you might need it in relation to compatibility, gaming, and just piece of mind. But also if your a student thinking of learning server administration or something of the type, then id definetely keep a version of windows handy or maybe make sure you have vmware installed on ur linux install.

Once i get new hardware i practically won't need Windows... However, I'll still need it for games that don't run or run well at all in Cedega.
