Give me a reason to NOT erase Windows!

    HURRAY!!!

I have just got the last of my devices working under Linux for the first time!!!

The list of devces includes wifi, iPod, a digital camera and the one that I could never get to work before - a PDA.

This might sound like nothing to some of you gurus out there, but it is a big thing for a noob like me! Now the only reason I need Windows XP is so that I can keep my virus definitions up to date. Oh wait - if I ditch WXP, I no longer need to bother with that!

So can anyone think of reason to keep my Windows partition?

I keep Windows around so whenever I get frustrated with Linux, I just try running XP a little bit. Within minutes I'm rebooting back into Linux and am eternally thankfull that I can...

Same here, although the only time I spend more than a few minutes in Windows is to play World of Warcraft, Half-Life 2 and its cousins like Counter-Strike, and Call of Duty.

If you can't think of any reason to keep it around, get rid of it.
I keep it around for iTunes and for web design (you can design for Firefox and Opera, but if your site doesn't work in IE, you're screwed).

After I managed to get everything working in Linux. I still kept XP for awhile.
Every once in awhile, something would happen with my hardware(couldn't get online mostly) that I couldn't figure out how to solve in Linux.
Boot into XP, my safety net, fix the offending hardware. Boot back into Linux.
After a little while when I got more comfortablw with Linux, bye bye XP.
Actually I had screwed up, I was installing a new distro, meant to delete and resize hda10. Instead, I deleted hda1.
    Never put Windows back on.

P.S. Guys, let's keep this thread nice and upbeat. No Windows bashing, lest it gets locked.

    True.

It just gets irritating when a good topic thread gets locked out because some guy can't control himself and goes on an "M$$$" rant.

I'm hooked on Call of Duty and World of Warcraft so I'm in Windows quite often to game and stuff. Literally to _just_ game, I don't have anything in here, in fact I would disable the internet (sure way to not get spyware) but World of Warcraft... so I don't use any browsers but it's still here as far as the network because WoW is an MMORPG, and a very addictive one at that.

I still use WindowsXP as a target for exploit attacks , and to learn dissassembly techniques.

As much as I'm not too impressed with Microsoft at this point, I still keep the partition just because there are many other devices, programs and games which I enjoy running.
You WILL regret it someday if you erase Windows.

    Windows XP

I keep copies of Windows (XP at this point) around on extra hard drives because I sometimes need to communciate with the unenlightened. And occassionally some of my distros do not play nicely with some of my hardware, so I revert to XP to get things done a little more quickly, and then I am back to trying to make my distro play nicely with my hardware.
