    Fun with USB drives.

Yes, I'm bored at work. This weekend I bought a USB flash drive and was pretty happy with it. I even wrote a short review for it on my site. I was curious what brands and models other folks have had success with in Linux. Mine was a PNY Attache 512MB.

I have a SanDisk 256 USB 2.0, I bought it with the intention of putting Slax on it but kept running into errors. Also, I wanted to partition it (2 partitions) but for some strange reason Windows wouldn't just accept that . Now I formatted it with FAT16 in Windows, but it's still giving me errors when I try to install Slax... Even more ?

My other is a fairly old Fujitsu-Siemens Memorybird 256 MB USB 1.1 - bought that a few years ago when they were spanking new... There's a nice story about that... I had to take the airplane and kept the stick with me in my backpack. Went through the metal detector (before nine-eleven ), it went of, guys went searching me, I had to take everything out. Don't know what they thought it was but noone had ever seen it, so they just assumed it was something dangerous :P.

How did you get to format it? And does Windows recognize both partitions? Some info please .

Im sure Linux will work with any usb thumb drive as long as usb storage devices are enabled in the kernel.

Just make a fat filesystem like so.
    Code:
    mkfs.vfat /dev/<device>
