You may not have noticed, but it seems to me that the "media" generally prints/reports what other people tell them. Maybe it's the scientists who lie? Yeah, that's it. But at least our president knows better.

Excellent point. I'm astounded that they still haven't brought order to the Superdome, where they told everyone in New Orleans to go. I know you can't bring the entire city under controll right away under the circumstances, but after 5 days (and counting) it is unimaginable that they aren't providing order (stop the rapes, etc), food, water, medicine, diapers etc. to the people who went where they were told to go. Better yet, get them out of there to where you can better take care of them! What is FEMA good at? It certainly isn't competent at managing an emergency. Heads should roll.

They are bringing tens of thousands of the victims here in Dallas. My wife and I are going to buy supplies and drop them off. It isn't much, but these people have been through hell!

If you've watched the news today, though I think it's late in coming but there's convoys of buses and trucks with supplies have been entering New Orleans all day today, the major air carriers are providing planes to fly the refugees to cities such as Dallas and San Antonio. I do think that many were thinking the situation in New Oleans wasn't as bad because the new media was broadcasting from the business district where it wasn't flooded, it wasn't until late Tuesday before the true extent was realized. Many of the roads leading into New Orlean and other affected areas had to be cleared as well.

It is good to hear that things are starting to turn around. The whole thing has been very badly handled in my opinion though. Government can't stop hurricanes, but when it herds people into a building it needs to provide order. I know it is hard to get in and out of there, but I can't believe that with the resources of the entire nation available we couldn't have at least taken care of the folks in the shelters (Superdome and N.O. Convention Center), days after the fact.

Here's an article with interviews of people who just came out of the Superdome. It isn't for the faint of heart though. If this were a movie, I couldn't watch it.

It's sad to think that it took place in the US and angers me to think that people stood by and did nothing when things were going on in the Superdome.

I've moved the anarchy debate pieces of this thread to its own thread here:

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/topic-54450.html

It seemed like it was really just its own topic and completely unrelated to the discussion of Hurricane Katrina.
