    I was supposed to travel to Houston today and work in the office for a week or so preparing for a project in Russia but needless to say it was cancelled this morning. Maybe I'll be traveling down early next week depending on what Rita does to Houston/surrounding area.

    I rode out Hurricane Claudette two years ago in Victoria, Tx. and that was no fun

    i grew up just south of Beaumont Texas and have been through a few, but seems like they've done a lot more damage in recent years.

    the best news is that it should weaken before it makes landfall, only a Cat 3 . The western Gulf is slightly cooler than the eastern.

    but a level 3 is enough to cause a storm surge as far north as interstate 10 which in most cases is a good 30 miles inland.

    Well, a good portion of your city has already made camp around Austin, so the more the merrier. (Except that you will be competing with ACL fest for space.)

    From everything I've seen they're expecting Rita to be a catagory 4 storm when it makes landfall.
