Yeah...
I use Linux from years, I took 1/2 months to have everything works... but now... it's the best!!!
I boot in few seconds, I've installed my favourite software with few commands (1 need -> 1 software) and so on... I think my installation is PERFECT!!!
This has take some time, but now I'm very fast to configure any machine, and I've noticed that Linux uses (quite) every hardware at the best, with few exceptions (such as my S3 Savage graphic chip...
)
Maybe, you should configure better your system... Don't be frustrated... slowly all your computer hardware will be used corretcly, and all your software will runs correctly... sure!
When using Windows, have you ever told "Ehi... do your business?"

Linux Sadness
Aloha,
Let me applaud your openess. Being open is very important as it allows thing to be discussed, evaluated and improved. That is why I prefer Linux over windows. Sure it is a little harder to learn but it is open so I can usually find the answers or ask in an open community. Linux is an Open OS. That is an advantage. As for security, a few wise rules will always help. Good password policies, etc. Security will always be an issue no matter what OS you are using. The fact is we all have to learn security if we want to compute in the modern world.
Mahalo,
EdwardGNU/Linux is a powerful Free OS. Fear is a powerful motivator. Freedom is sweet. Fear GNU/Linux. Savor Freedom.

hey man......like everybody else said dont compare windows to linux......they ar two totally different things both having their own good features and weaknesses.
getting used to linux will take a while but it wil be totally worth the profound enlightening experience when you get it. if you are not comfortable with your current distro then go ahead and try another one. even I use fedora core 3 and it works perfectly for me.
keep hanging around this place and things will get better. people are always willing to help.

i havent run the top command in gentoo, but that whips the pants off fc4.
the more you get used to linux, the more you like it and maybe the more you will want to experiment (like me, ive tried mandrake, slackware, ubuntu, fc4, suse and now gentoo [thats not counting livecds]).
lovin' linux,
