    Tips for stopping procrastination

I've a pretty bad procrastination probelm. Homework almost always gets done at 22:15 the day before it's due. I keep checking forums like every 10 minutes. I can't disconnect my PC because I need it for Wikipedia/Wiktionary and typing.

Yeah, I also need tips from others on how to stop procrastination. Lol, everything i do is done pretty late e.g. a major report worth 30% of final mark for one of my uni course. Research is started 5pm day before it is due. Report finished 10am next day 2 hours before it is due. Surprisingly, I get decent marks for it.

But, I realise this has to stop, but turning off the computer is not an option.

Interesting question. I used to procrastinate, but then I got a job in industry for six years ... The experience was finally so awful that I *had* to get out and pass some exams. Desperation is a great cure for procrastination!

Another tip for course work is this. People tend to get very hung up on issues about time. You face two dimensions here: time versus task. If you focus too much on time, you neglect thinking about the tasks and vice versa. Looking at things differently can help enormously.

So next time you think "I'm short of time" think, "No, the task is what I should focus on", then just work on things. If you become too task orientated, just glance at how much time you have ... This works for me.

Or get a friend to come and kick you occasionally

Just think of it as mullitasking with your homework being the lowest priority process

He he ... someone I was at university with had the same problem. He used to wait ages before starting an assignment, and then submit it at the last minute.

I could never persuade him to visit the library, and he actually hated reading! He failed his degree course and then retook it. It took him five years to get his degree, and now he's getting up at 5 am every morning and working like a slave to pay off his course fees.

The strange thing is, he's a really top lad ... Good fun, and easy to get along with. I used to visit him and sleep on his floor, so because of his procrastination I extended my student life for a couple of extra years ... I miss those great days.
