    I voted Stage 1.
But only for a fast computer. If it is an older machine that i am going to put Gentoo on, I will go with Stage 3.

    What is a Stage 1/3?

Ditto here on the stage 1, although I used stage 3 for my first few installs and have installed it on others' comps...never seen the point of stage 2 personally.

yeah, what is stage 1/3, hadn't heard of it either.

    my favourite is stage1. I've reinstalled a couple of times, about 16 stage3, 2 stage 2 and 5 stage 1 installs :P

Stage 3, simply because I can't be bothered to google around for cpu optimizations.

GCC's official documentation is good enough

I'm sorry but what's a Gentoo stage? (Well I know what a Gentoo is but not a Gentoo stage.)

I voted for 1/3, I've done it a few times and it's really tweaked and polished, it impressed me.

That's a good explanation of the Stage 1/3 install, optionally you can download and install Gentoo Jackass! which is essentially the same thing, I've done both and it's my favorite. If not that then a Stage 1 I guess.
