    Hi,

Can anyone point me to some good resources for someone starting their own distro? Hosting, where I can get people to help, etc.

    Thanks,

i don't know as i've never done this before...but with finding people to help, i'd say the forums would be a decent place to start . there are a lot of knowledgable people here and i'm sure some would be interested in being involved with this

    also, how to...
you could use linux from scratch to make one....unless you want to do all of the work yourself with no help at all (but linux from scratch, from what i've heard, is basically you creating your own with instructions)

SourceForge.net can probably host... If not, places like home.no does :P

People to help? On this forum!

You can also get help from for example LFS...

Also, there's a pretty new distro in development, check my sig if you want to join.

    Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Where can I post to "hire" new devs, translators, etc.?

Seemed to be quite a bit of interest here:

Maybe one of them would want to join. But I guess developers would join easier if they knew what you thought of: package managment, bloat/hardcore, stable/bleeding edge, create from scratch/base on existing distro...

My distro will focus on many things:

It will have a graphical installer and an online package management system holding around 10,000-11,000 packages. It will have two software archives - stable and unstable, and the user selects which to pick software from. It will also feature a graphical control panel, much like YaST (only better). I'm even considering making my own desktop search system, much like Kat or Beagle, only integrated throughout the OS.

At the moment, I'm basing it off of Debian.

    Thanks,

    Woodley

EDIT: I've also set up IRC channels for this project, located on irc.freenode.net, in channeI #woodley-linux-dev

Sounds like a long shot, do you code C or C++?

Personally I prefer C, but I'm very willing to work with C++ if it will do the job better.

C++ is alot better if your planning on creating tools similar to YaST.
