New FreeBSD Site Layout?
Has anybody noticed that the FreeBSD web site has been drastically updated? I just visited and was pleasantly surprised.

Yep, looks pretty nice.
That there are now two very visible links that say "Get FreeBSD Now" and "New to FreeBSD?" suggests to me that they are growing in popularity. Or maybe they are just pretending to be.

Yeah I saw it (before it was on osnews
), it looks a lot better than the former (and even the former looked good). The handbook and friends is still in old layout (but IMO they are more readable like that :P)

You know guys, I think they stole the layout from PC-BSD.
And I don't think they're growing in popularity, although I do think that they are trying to. For example, on the download page, they do tell people that if they aren't sure what architecture to download that they should download x86 (although you probably shouldn't be using FreeBSD if you don't know what processor architecture you have).

It looks awesome, don't *****. I saw it earlier on the FreeBSD project's Java page (which they redone too).
They nicked it from DesktopBSD btw.

I saw it on slashdot, what's nice is that you can visit the old site too.
(freebsd.org/old) I think.

That's strange. I wish they would retrogress though. They kept the older one but for some reason the load time is much slower than it used to be. I liked the previous one better. FreeBSD isn't really meant to be user friendly and I don't think it should try to be. It should be FreeBSD. Not Windows. The same goes for Linux.
- 10-10-2005 #8I agree that FreeBSD was hard as hell for me to configure the way I liked it at first (coming from a Linux environment). It's a bit of a learning curve. So in that regard maybe it is relatively "user unfriendly".FreeBSD isn't really meant to be user friendly and I don't think it should try to be.
On the other hand, I tend to think that FreeBSD's ports system is super "user friendly". Installing software should be that easy. The rpm and deb systems have a lot to learn from them. (IMO of course.)

I had no problems with the old one, but this new one's hot.
