    decided to give linux a try. installed xandros 1.0 on my laptop. spent the past couple of days getting used to it. all is well, but i wish to switch to a fire fox browser. still having a small problem with the commands, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. don't no a lot yet, but i want to learn. thx

    Xandros 1 is very old. I would recommend (if you like Xandros) taking a look at version 3.01, which can be downloaded off their site here:

    thx

    being new at this, i was told about 1.0 being old, but that it was a great distro to start with. upgrading to 3 is next. thx 4 kwik reply.

    I agree, it is a nice distribution to ease you into Linux if you come from a MS Windows background.

    how do i log in as root? very new at this.

    On most distributions (except Ubuntu), you can log in as root by simply opening up a console and typing su followed by your root password. This gives you root privileges. Be very careful when you're logged in as root, since the system doesn't ask questions and you can very easily hose your system with the wrong command.

    trying to install firefox browser. logged in as root, entered
    "apt-get install mozilla-firefox"
    could not find package. am i missing something?
