    Personally, I care less about one's post-count.

It's not about quantity but quality!

I agree. What's to say someone doesn't just ask a TON of questions? I mean, I could very well be the biggest dunce of the whole forum and have asked 4000 simple questions. Not that I think that's the case... it's just an example. Haha.
Or, just like me, answering similar questions around the things I've done in the past (sendmail, samba, some X config stuff, DNS, Apache config, and one or two others) but steering well clear of stuff I have no idea of, PHP and MySQL, for instance. Sometimes I have to look stuff up, 'cos I'm not sure, and on those occasions I might learn a little more, but most of the time I dont, 'cos I find myself answering questions about stuff I know well.

I think it's good because it's a waste of time in there anyway and by not spending time there we actually answer tech questions instead of rants.
I see the Coffee Lounge here as the cyber-equivalent of a real Coffee Lounge in a real work place. That's where you go to take a break, get to know people and socialize as a diversion. When you're done, you go back to your job to do real work which is helping others solve problems. The time you spend on break should not count as real work.

    My thoughts exactly

The existence of a qualification system depending on the number of posts is potentially confusing for some people, who might be encouraged to post garbage in order to become Forum Ingeneers or something like that only through asking things that are irrelevant for Linux. IMHO, not counting the posts in this forums is at least a creative attempt to control the quality of the ranking system.
