Where did you download the ISO's from? I doubt you got a virus just by downloading two ISOs thought... Maybe avast reacted to the boot code in the ISOs or something.

Hmmmm, could it be windows sensing a threat and trying to preserve itself through deception? I've heard of wild animals like weasels, coral snakes, and politicians trying deceptive tacitcs to stay alive so maybe windows is thinking: "uhoh, a superior OS! I need to make the human think that it's BAD. Where's that 'avast' program that tells them where the bad things are?"

Maybe i'm giving xp too much credit...

Its possible to get a virus from any download on the net...even if its an offical microsoft patch on a unioffical mirror on the net. I would try and find slack on a offical mirror and report this incedent to the slack team

my first linux install was a corrupt SuSE 9.2 DVD. it tainted my view of linux somewhat, but i knew that it was better. i got a good SuSE 9.3 DVD and all is well
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

Even if it was an actual virus, i doubt it would affect linux or windows that much. Since your not installing Slackware on Windows (which you can't anyways) it won't affect windows. And since Linux isn't compatible with some viruses on the net, i'm sure it won't harm Linux too much.
