Yeah, Gimli's accent has me in stitches - sometimes broad scottish, sometimes, er..., very indetermiate.

And them hobbits - they all grew up in the same or neighbouring villages, yet one has a Scottish accent, one a 'northern England' accent, one an accent which could be west country/Devon or could be Norfolk (depending which scene you're watching) and Frodo himself trying his hardest to use BBC English.

It's also disappointing that the spread of modern youth culture accents seem to be eroding the traditional regional accents of the UK - to hear some kids talk today, you'd be hard pressed to work out where they're from (or understand them)!
hehe thats glasgow. have a listen to rab c nesbit. the only people who can understand them are other glaswegians :d

my favourite muppet had to be the swedish chef. hehe.

if you have ever read the books there are i think 4 regions of hobbits divided cardinally. sam and frodo are from one area and merry and pippen are from another area. of course in the movie two of the hobbits were american one was a scott and the other irish i believe so its understandable why they were completely different. was i the only one irritated by frodo's inability to say mordor correctly.

I think it depends what side of the Brandywine river you were born. I seem to remember that hobbits can't swim very well, so maybe they didn't mix and learn from each other ....
