    horrible tech support

What is the worst tech support you have ever gotten?

tech support tried to convince me that if my boot order was "floppy, CD, hard drive" I could not boot from CD. He insisted that it had to be "CD, hard drive, floppy". Even without a floppy drive!

It bothered me when a while ago I called for tech support and they told me to re-install Windows but they never gave me a copy of Windows.

When I ordered DSL (internet service), I called them to find out how to do the initial setup (create account ..) from Linux, they told me that they do not support Linux, and that I need Windows to get on the Internet. So, yeah, I had to create an account from Windows in order to get on the Internet from Linux.

I upgraded my dsl connection from 512 to 1.5Mbps. When I ran a speed test I discovered that I could upload at around 494kbps but I could still only download at 512kbps. Three days playing phone tag with people who kept telling me to run the same tests, and change the same settings frustrated the crap out of me before I spoke to someone who could help me. Apparently the other support people were unable to determine that they had not changed all the necessary settings on my account.
The last guy I spoke to took less than five minutes to fix it.

the extent of my tech support has been google and this site. i realized i could get by better working off of those two. i don't have the patience for someone who has never seen my computer or my situation to give me the run around. and besides, isn't it more enjoyable to figure it out yourself?

Phone support is only for idiots who will believe Dell when they say "we recommend Microsoft Windows XP Professional". You get much better support off of forums like this where you get multiple opinions and faster help from people who actually know what they are doing all for free. I have never once solved a problem from phone support. Not once. They aren't even in the US. So you get a moron on the telephone after waiting on hold for 20 minutes.
I've lost faith in humanity now and don't think that people will ever get past this stage.

    Umm...

This is not tech support but look at this error message once I installed slackware.

"Trend ChipAwayVirus has detected a boot cirus on your hard disk. The operating system is not supported by ChipAwayVirus"

Just found slightly funny and upon request by the thread author I posted... Happy josh ^_^
