Do Folks Know You Have an Intrest in Computers?
A slight bit of background... I've always been known as the beer drinking, guitar playing, redneck type. Ya know, always working on cars and trucks and shooting pool in the tavern. That sorta thing. However, at work the other night I was talkinga bout video games with a co-worker. I mentioned that I had been tinkering with my GNU/Linux box the other day. much to the suprise of everyone around me.
Which leads me to my question. Do the majority of the people you associate have any knowledge of your love of computers, GNU/Linux in particular? After the work incident I made it more of a note to bring computers in to more of my conversations with people, only to hear, "I wouldn't have expected you to be the 'computer type'."
Just kind of curious to hear other's stories I suppose.

Good question. My work colleagues know because I tend to talk about my interests a lot. I think they get fed up with my Linux slant, so these days I don't say much about it.
One of my work colleagues is curious about giving it a try, but he's a family man and doesn't have any time to spare.
My parents aren't interested, but they aren't 'techie' people in any case. I'll talk about my interest in the pub if I think someone will respond well to that topic. Sometimes I'm surprised to find that another person has given Linux a go.
Other than that I have other interests and topics, so I leave the subject alone. I won't join a LUG because I see them as being a little too focused on a single subject, and I have no interest in joining clubs as such.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

He he, I make sure they know. You cant move in my house for computer bits anyway, so anyone visiting soon knows. Anyone who likes to tell me about their latest greatest game or app for windows, I make sure I tell 'em I'm running an equivalent for Linux.
I dont go out of my way to make windows look bad, but I do try to point out to people how easier life is this side of the OS fence. Then windows just looks bad all by itself.Linux user #126863 - see http://linuxcounter.net/

well man me and you have alot in commen other than the working on cars thing. alot of people i associate with dont even know windows is an OS they think that its part of the computer. so as you can imagin i dont talk about anything computer related unless im asked and i NEVER say anything about Linux it is way beyond there comprehension
