but if you really want a GUI when installing gentoo, then you can use knoppix to install it. i can't believe i got into a rant and forgot one of my main points!! i'm an idiot...
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

    Yep...... :P
    [rant]
But really, there are advanced distros for a reason, for advanced people to use them. There is no point in someone fresh from another OS, that wont know how to maintain or set up their new linux boy anyway.[/rant]

You assume (wrongly so, IMO) that "advanced" users don't want a GUI installer. I don't consider myself new to Linux or Gentoo/Debian, but I would like to see graphical installers on both. Why? Personal preference mostly. I don't see why these distros *shouldn't* offer at least the option. Like I said, it doesn't have to replace their existing installers, just be another option for those who want it.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from, but that install should be just as taxing, IMO, because you need to have that knowledge if your system is gonna work properly, I know you are advanced, more so than I am, and I know that i probably sound a bit strange, but, the installer acts as a test :P

Some of the other distros have text as well as GUI installs, Fedora and Mandrake come to mind. It's always good to have the choice.

I have to agree with techieMoe. I don't think they should get rid of the option for a text install, but for most people there is no need for a text install. I haven't used this new debian installer, but it doesn't look like it makes less technical (decreasing the learning you get from it), but just clearer.

Installing Gentoo with GUI installer will only deprive yourself the learning experiences, but I
have to agree with TechieMoe on this issue.

If GUI installer means attracting more users to
Linux camps, it could only lead to good things...
