such a bad precedent, I hope gentoo doesn't go that route, though I know that some are working on it

I hope Slackware doesn't either. Not that there's anything wrong with a graphical install, it's just that the Slackware install is really very easy and intuitive as it is now.

It's always a nice tool to attract newbies though which will help increase the potential user base.

The installer does look pretty good, but comparing this to Anaconda or Libernet, it's basically the old installer in a fancy suit...

As you know, I have had to use dabian-installer's text based system to install Ubuntu, my first text-based install. Now, if only they could make it more better...try to embed gParted please!

It looked pretty nice to me... but I'm just not a fan of Anaconda's visual style.

I think this is a good thing. I for one wish Gentoo would take a break from its egotism and consider this as well. There's no logical reason why you *shouldn't* at least offer a graphical installer for folks who prefer it. You don't have to force it on them. This sort of thing can only increase the number of people that might consider using your distribution.

the thing is, that i dont think the text based installers are that much harder although they may be a little scarier...
