I was shown this site off a Slashdot article, and reading some news I heard they wanted to be "the Linux of the music world"... I just thought that was funny.
Also, their site is pretty cool, from what I can tell. It's a music-purchasing site that offers indie artists with non-DRM encumbered tracks for various prices in various formats and various bitrates (I just downloaded an album at WAV quality). The minimum you pay (from what I can tell) is $5 for an album (I don't know what it costs per track) and you can pick what you feel like paying. Money goes 50/50 between artist and site.
I don't want to sound like an advertisement here. I just hear a lot of folks on the forum pushing for more open media standards and I think this site might just be doing some good stuff.

I was thinking of something on the lines of this the other day. But with open source bands, that dont have copyrights, are under the GPL and the music is free. Although the music industry is cut throat, and then we would get 400 covers of ' I believe i can fly'
- 11-10-2005 #3I'm not of the opinion that artists shouldn't get paid for their work. Sure, I like open source when it comes to software (and I do get paid to write software), but I still think it's fair for an artist to ask for a little compensation for enjoying their art.

That is a nice site. I have listened to music on there for a while. Another similar site is http://www.opsound.org/index.php They are less of a "label" than magatune

Forgot to mention that I like the fact that you can listen to whole albums and whole music tracks rather than 30-second clips.

Barbara Leoni is very good! I love blues guitar.
PS: Guess which commercial radio station supports a well known Open Source sound format?I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
