Rants Section
We should have a rants section, where people could just flame whenever and it wouldn't get locked... really, I think linuxquestions.com or whatever has one... then if people were posting their anti-microsoft stuff there then we wouldn't be getting it in the coffee lounge or anywhere else. Sometimes people just need to vent.

That's what blogs are for.

I understand what you're saying, and I think it would reduce the number of anti-microsoft, anti-linux, flamebait, posts in the rest of the forum. But I think it would distract from the main point of this forum -- to create a community of linux users, and to be a place where new/old users can come for help. In general I think this site has a good atmosphere, and I wouldn't want to encourage the growth of a high-testosterone, perpetual flame-war forum.

we've discussed this before (the mods (even though it could've been in public, i forget)).. the idea was killed due to the fear of it spilling over and/or getting out of hand. also, it would not promote the image that linuxforums.org is trying to put forth, namely, a friendly place for anyone to get linux help.

I wouldn't want lfDo turning into /. and that's basicly what would happen if we had a rants section. This is a help forum after all....rants have nothing to do with help, and we already have the coffee lounge for opinion etc.

It would just spill over into other parts of the forum, and might encourage abusive PMs.
EDIT: Much later ...
If I was going to launch a rant though it would be about MediaPlex and the way they keep sending tracking cookies to my work machine (Win XP). Many things are certain in life ... The sun will rise and set again, and MediaPlex will continue to pester me.
I will continue to track down their spyware and utterly destroy it!

Besides, who needs rants when we have TechieMoe's wonderful website
