But the only reason I haven't installed more fans is that my case only has one fan port. I bought the case in 1998. In fact, the motherboard is from 1998 too... that's why I can only have 384 mb ram on a 100 mhz fsb. Otherwise I've upgraded everything I can. In fact, until two years ago, I only had an 8 mb video card with an ISA dialup modem on 128mb of ram on a 12 gb hdd. With no surge protector. On Windows 95.

My daughter's "new" computer is a 700mhz processor with 256mb of ram running SUSE 10.0. Putting a decent amount of memory in a machine is more important than some uber-quick processor IMHO.
try playing battlefield 2 on that pII

Yeah, I love old hardware too... never throw anything out. My ancient 486 25mHz is still running as my web server. Everyone laughs at the thing until I tell them that's what is serving my family site - and then they can't believe how well it serves pages.

Now they are all looking in their closets for old computers that they can run Linux on. Hahahah... of course now no one will give me their old computers Maybe I should have kept it secret ... "yeah, man, just ignore that old machine behind the foosball table... it's not doing anything.. really... "

I am in the same boat too. I bragged a wee bit too much. oh, well I have more than I really need now anyway. what is a good distro for a 486? I usally do not use anything less than a P1, but it might be neat to use python to do some robotics with an old i486.

    Hi, peonuser

Please stop bringing all these old threads back to the top, but start new threads for any problems you are having instead. We usually lock all revived threads that are older than one year and have been inactive. This one is over 3 years old.
