Ooooh obscure...
Hey,
I am looking for an obscure OS to tinker with, so far there is opensolaris, GNU/HURD and the BSD's (obscure to non unixers)
So, which on do YOU GUYS think would be better for someone who want to do some coding, and tinker, and play a few 2D games
Thanks

Hmmm... I've only tried freebsd of them, so I voted for it... Whichever you try, post your opinion on it! BTW, do you have a linux distro atm as well? Or full-time switcher now?
If you want something you play with for quite a while, check out netbsd. WARNING: The installer is pretty basic, and you might have to fight for quite a while to get it in - I reinstalled 3 times or something because the installer didn't like typos
And don't expect sushi to work without problems, here I couldn't get it do anything sane - everything I tried was spoilt because of a typo or wrong button...
This was netbsd 2.0 or something I think, 3.0 might work better...

I say FreeBSD because I think you will have the best luck of all of them (and you can find help the easiest). Then again, you never know.

Nah, for linuxing I am gonna do a LFS thing, so I am OK on that front, FreeBSd has a quite big fan base, so net would probably be a better option
.
Please, please carry on

Lol, I just want something that is going back to the old days when people just hacked and smashed at systems to get things done
and had some fun while doing it ( I already use linux, looking for something else), anyone have any idea where to find a table, or some stats, showing how many people use different operating systems.
- 12-06-2005 #7Try this young sir. No stats, but a directory!
