I am a Beatles fan, but not an avid one. I love their music, but they were just a bunch of lads from Liverpool who happened to have a hell of a lot of talent. Iconic figures all have feet of clay ... They are interesting and flawed at the same time, and we all enjoy being confused by that.
On the other hand, I do agree that the world is lacking an 'angry young man' who speaks out against social injustice, and sings about that. John Lennon had a lot of passion and I miss that very much. I miss the songs he might have written had he lived.
I remember the day he died quite well. I was 16 and I was excited about things like having my first drink etc. I had a radio by my bed, and when I woke up that day the first thing I did was switch it on. 'John Lennon has been shot dead in New York' was the first thing I heard. It seemed like something was over, but I didn't know what.
Now I read about people weeping and laying wreaths in Central Park. Their tributes seem a little empty and often rather camp. 'The spirit of John lives in this place' wailed one fan. It's pointless weeping about dead rock stars: donate some money to the homeless or send some money to Africa ... Get real! John Lennon got real ...
But I'm a hypocrite: I also wept.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

May John Lennon rest in eternal peace.
I'm a fan of the Beatles, and liked the later Lennon songs while he was with the Beatles (Well they say Lennon/McCartney, but it's rather obvious if it's John or Paul).

I loved the Beatles as a group before Sergeant Pepper's, and liked a few of their songs after. In my opinion, all of the music all four wrote and/or performed after the breakup could not collectively begin to equal just one of the tunes they wrote and performed before Sergeant Pepper's. I was saddened the day I heard John had been gunned down. I especially felt sorrow for his wife, children and relatives who would no longer have him.

I agree with Dapper Dan. I went off the Beatles after they went to pot (except for Eleanor Rigby, that is).

I've been listening to The Beatles for a long time, some may say I'm a bit infatuated with the history of them and whatnot and it's a bit true. IMO, they were better 1965 and on. For Lennon to write/perform songs while taking a trip on acid is incredible to me, as does Jimi Hendrix playing a wild solo on LSD, these guys were talented.
I dunno, the whole Sgt. Pepper get up was hilarious to me, then The Magical Mystery Tour was heavily drug based, bright colors and such. The men in suits with the moptop haircuts were ok and all but I still prefer 1965 and on, also known as their hippie age :P
oh and thanks for the pic loft306.Registered Linux user #393103
