    N00b here!

I got punted into the world of Linux by a fried hard drive, a lack of Windows disks, and an empty savings account (seeing as I had to buy a new hard drive). Thanks to a library book with a DVD of Fedora Core 4 in the back, my computer is no longer an inert and burnt-out husk. Say hello to Buster 2.0.

The extent of my UNIX/Linux experience before this was having used Solaris for a couple of summers at school. I'm dredging up a bunch of commands from the back of my brain. Not that I've had to use many commands for day-to-day internet stuff with Fedora. But as long as I'm in, I might as well learn. I need something to stimulate my brain. Hanging out with lots of geeks is good for that too.

    Welcome to our world!

Yeah, Fedora doesn't require too much commandline usage, which helps make the transition easier. Just remember that there are a number of powerful tools from the commandline!

How's FC going for ya, by the way? I had a lot of issues with it sometime back, and therefore I've never been a big fan, but it seems nice if you don't experience those issues .

    Welcome aboard!

Remember, you may not have to use the command line but it is alot more fun .

Cabhan: what sort of problems did you have with it? I'm finding it to be very stable (so far). I haven't tried to do much with it yet.

bryansmith: I have no problem with command lines, but I really like the versatility of this... if I just want to get on the computer and use it unthinkingly I can, and then if I want to make it do more I'm not locked out of its innards.

I had issues with X lockups, seemingly related to my Internet. That said, it looks like it's very nice graphically, and I know a lot of folks like it a lot.

So if it's working for ya, awesome.
