I found this:
http://www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/web...e_id=cad-linux
with a search on Google...
I know absolutely jack sh** about CAD, but this site seems to point you in the direction you want to go.

Qcad is pretty easy and is included with Knoppix and some others. Cycas is free for non-commercial use. Hard to understand, but it looks like it can do anything. You do want to render your model in 3-D, don't you?

i looked at qcad last night before posting this thread. i dont want to pay for something i am going to play with for now. i may buy it later to use after i refresh my skills with it. but i just need something that can save to dwf and print to pdf.
i dont really need the 3d modeling. i dont think i would know how to use it. i have only done 2d drafting except for one paper when you need to do 3d drawings of what ever you are drawing. but i never progressed enough into cad to get to 3d.

I just remembered. There's a package called gnu-cad. I think it was shipped with a distro I tried out some time ago.
EDIT: It looks a bit basic and reminds me of XFigI am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Have you checked out the "table of equivalents/replacements/analogs of Windows software in Linux"?
The only reason I ask, is because they list 15 different CAD programs available in Linux. If not, the list is available here: http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html
I don't know if any of them are any good, as I haven't had a chance to install any of them.

I know you can do a pretty good drawing job using Open Office Draw. It's not quite 2D CAD standard, but with practice you can create some good drawings ...
I used it to draw an icon for my forthcoming (give me several months) website. I even managed a texture fill and a bit of edge blurring. Finding all the features is a bit tricky at first (I think you need a tutorial) but the results are very satisfactory.
Then there's the rosy glow you get from thinking, 'I made this! And the software is free!'I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso
