Yes and no. It's a Southern custom to eat collards and black-eyed peas on New Year's day, so we combine that occasion with my brother's birthday complete with a birthday cake and presents. My wife's birthday is December 26th. Before we were married, her grandmother, (who just turned 99 by the way...) made it abundantly clear to me that her granddaughter's birthday was NOT celebrated on Christmas day just to make it easy on everyone!

I'll be "hatachi"* (20 years) this year.

* jap. special word for 20 years old, other wise it's 'age' + "sai"(counter for years). I don't know exaclty why it's hatachi, but that's just the way it is, ne?
