Fluxbox is nice and kinda give me a good feeling, but KDE has all those neat features, and konqueror + it's kioslaves rocks... Very nice integration too, one app which browses files, samba, internet, ftp, opens compressed files, views images...

    ....
    I've used fvwm-crystal before, I agree that regular fvwm is very difficult (or time consuming) to make look good. fvwm-crystal has several pre-set fvwm styles that look very nice and are easy to switch between

    In arch (underground), it's in the unstable repository as "fvwm-crystal"

    I usually compile smaller packages from source (for example, libraries) and I usually try to assess how many dependencies a given package has before deciding to take the wild and woolly approach. Actually, I like compiling from source: it's interesting to see what you end up with. I usually:

    ./configure
    su
    <password>
    make && make install && make clean

    I also use urpmi for bigger 'complex' apps.

    As for guis I love them! With all that memory and disk space, why not use one? Of course I only have a desktop box, so I would say that!

    Cool

    well, since i can't get gentoo working on my lappy i can't use portage
    i have debian on my lappy as well which limits my source usage. although on my SuSE partition, i do compile as much source as possible.
    Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
    Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
    Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
