- 01-09-2006 #21I never suggested the "analysts" should be given credance. I was merely pointing out that there was an article on "The Register" speculating Linux might be the basis of a Google OS. I linked the second story to demonstate there were two articles on the same web page with entirely different conclusions drawn from the same rumor. If anything, that should tell you I don't put much faith in what the "analysts" say either. Did you think otherwise?

i was rather annoyed with the whole affair on a whole because i thought it would be cool for those web surfing check my email types to have a cheap pc that wont get hijacked within 3 minutes of being on the web. also i wasnt saying you made the assumption, but that the register did. i have grown to not trust the register for that same reason. however several posters on this thread did fall into the rumor and get all excitied for the rumor mill being spewed forth. i always say dont believe it till you see it.
- 01-09-2006 #23So you were posting in order to stimulate conversation and demonstrate different points of view. Yes, I would have done the same thing. In a way I bet you wanted to see just what kind of response you would get; would someone think about this and post an intelligent reply?

I almost feel that Google has gone too far though. Here in the UK there's a supermarket called Tescos. You can buy your food from Tescos, get a financial loan, run your mobile phone and the Devil knows what else. Soon my middle name will be 'Tescos': if you get my drift?I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Maybe to a lesser degree.

- 01-09-2006 #26That's an interesting article Moe. Not sure if I want to love Walmart or hate them. On the one hand they're offering bank accounts to people who are financially excluded. On the other hand I have an inbuilt suspicion of large organisations which appear to be offering something for nothing. I feel genuinely confused by that!

- 01-10-2006 #27Not to get too off-topic, but I'm conflicted as well. Wal-Mart generally offers bar none the best price on most goods in my part of the US, but their business practices in order to offer things at that price (pressuring manufacturers, buying from overseas sweat shops, purposefully operating at a loss in order to kill local businesses) are questionable at best.

- 01-10-2006 #28Thanks Moe: I knew there'd be a snag somewhere.
