Plus, I notice that a high proportion of the Canada team are french-Canadian (Quebecoise?). Is it just coincidental or something to do with Quebec getting more snow/ice than the rest of the country??? I can see the cultural connection, as France provides quite a number of contenders/contestants, so logic would dictate that quite a number of Canadian french speakers might also "do" winter sports, but it did just seem that there was a disproportionate number of "french" names among the Canadian atheletes.
Not that "my lot" are any real competition though. The will have returned with the expected amount of medals i.e. One. Though fair do's to the girl, she did get the silver for skeleton bob. A "sport" akin to chucking yourself down a bob run on a tea tray/sheet of corrugated steel/plastic rubbish bag (much like I did as a kid - on the very odd occassion that we had enough snow!).
Only downside, is the bloody 4 year wait till the Vancouver games! Perhaps they could change it to every 2 years!
toodle pip!

As for more French names, you're probably right, but I don't notice anymore lol. Well, your theory could be correct, in some places in Quebec. The top half of Quebec, formerly known as Lower Canada has a higher latitude, reaching well over 60N so it is only reasonable that it sees more ice and snow. Quebec also throws off huge Carnivals in the winter. Theres the Quebec Carnival and Montreal also has a Carnival I believe. Quebec also has a population of ~8 Million which is about 1/4 of Canada's total population, so that helps them along.
