How Much Do You Know About Linux?
Since number of posts someone has doesn't really tell us how much we really know about linux, I have decided to start a poll on it. How much do you think you know?
Here is how the poll works:
1 = I just installed linux and don't know anything yet.
2 = I am still a Newbie, i know a few things, but still have many issues.
3 = I am beggining to get a hand of linux. I know how to do the basics, but still need help with advanced options.
4 = I am the above average linux user. I know how to do many things, and i can figure most new things out on my own.
5 = I am almost 100% efficient with linux. I know almost everything.
6 = I am an absolute linux GURU. Nothing can stop me.
I am curious to see what people will put...
I put 2. although i think it should acually be about 1.5

Hmm... I've been using Linux for more than 7 years now, but to this day I still fit into all of those categories at times, depending on what I'm doing at the time, so I won't vote. I don't really consider myself a beginner, or a guru, but I am a Lover of Linux.

#1 I just installed six weeks ago. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who knows less about Linux than I do.

If possible, it would be fun to give all those that vote for numbers 5 or 6 an "instant online quiz" at the end of this poll to see if they know as much as they think they do.

i voted for option 4, although in actual fact, i am somewhere between 3 and 4. maybe i'm feeling overoptimistic.

Four.
I'm pretty good with Linux, but I'm not sure there is such a thing as an average user. A long way to go before 5, I know enough to know that there is a big stack of things I don't know. That's part of the reason I try and help here. I've solved most of the problems I can think of, so helping out is a good way to teach myself a whole lot more.
Chris..To be good, you must first be bad. "Newbie" is a rank, not a slight.

I voted a three, I can do some stuff like install drivers and programs on the command line, and I'm able to use Vi really well... and that's really about it, SUSE is perfect for me because I'm bad at installing programs and such but it just does it automatically for me... and I'm really in luck if it's an RPM... but see, I never have to use Vi or the command line to install stuff, since SUSE has gotten so good at automating it there's no reason for me to... in fact the only reason I know how to do that stuff is because I have tried distros/flavors like FreeBSD and Slackware... but if I ever have to do some hardcore troubleshooting I think I could...
