I suppose other countries must have them as well. Not far from petergriffin and me is the village of Melton Mowbray, famous for its pork pies. They jealously guard their pie making techniques against their rivals. Pie Wars!!
In theory, Melton Mowbray pies are made not too far from where I live. Melton is halfway between Leicester and Nottingham...

Pork Pies have been made in Nottingham (by Pork Farms - just the smell of it as you drive along Queens Drive some days makes your mouth water) since long before I was born. But their spiritual home is supposed to be Melton Mowbray - despite all the arguments about whether they're only real Melton Mowbray ones if they're made within so many miles of the town. Anyway, you can buy the genuine article here, apparently.

Personally, I like a lot of these pies, pork pie is good. But Steak and Ale is particularly appealing.

(NB being a city boy, I certainly dont like magpie...)

I love Apple pie. It is my favorite.
I also like Lemon meringue, chocolate, cherrry, blueberry, and a few of the others.

Never had fish pie. What is it?

What exactly is a pie, a gypsy tart is just like a pie (google it, safesearch ON )

google says it is: Dish baked in pastry-lined pan often with a pastry top

So a lot more stuff counts too

Just to add a bit more to the UK Pie Invasion I'll vote for steak and kidney.

To expand on fingal's thread a bit more:

Believe it or not, plum pie with lobster sauce was served in the 18th. century. Sweet and savoury combined! I would like to try that one day, but it'll probably make me sick.

Shepherd's pie! Yep, also popular this side of the pond.
A friend from Cornwall says that Cornish pasties were originally made for the Tin Miners. They didn't eat the pastry just the contents which would be sweet one end and savoury the other. This was because they were likely to have arsenic all over their hands and the pastry was just a protective cover!

    What a strange topic
I voted anyway and it looks like I'm the only one who doesn't like pies. I never eat pies. It isn't food to me.
I never eat deserts too, I just stuff myself with the main course
