Hey Entangledphoton ... who wrote that song? I like the words.

Edit: Lol ... I thought 'Rent. Out tonight' was part of the lyrics. I hadn't heard of Rent.

It's hard to articulate, but it has a sort of 'noir' feel to it. The call of the wild ... The idea that your body can make you do things. It's a very urban kind of lyric, and I can identify with wanting to 'hit the town' and meet interesting people.

The lyric is also quite erotic and has a kind of poetic quality to it. A little bit like 1950/60s Beat poetry. That's about as close as I can get to explaining it.

It also has a restless, 'Let's do it now' feel to it. I experience that a lot, so for me it's quite real.

    I can’t say that I love jesus
That would be a hollow claim.
    He did make some observations
    And I’m quoting them today.
’judge not lest ye be judged.’
    What a beautiful refrain.
    The studio audience disagrees.
Have his lambs all gone astray?

    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"

    ’you are lost and disillusioned!’
What an awful thing to say.
I know this show doesn’t matter.
    It means nothing to me.
I thought I might help them understand
But what an ugly thing to see.
    ’i am not an animal’
    Subtitled under the screen.

    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"

When I tried to tell my story
They cut me off to take a break.
    I sat silent 5 commercuials
I had nothing left to say
The talk show host was index-carded
    All organized and blank
The other guests were scared and hardened
    What a sad parade.

    What a sad parade

    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"
    Call me leper "A"

Nice one Giles. I really like this thread! I might as well advertise Richard Thompson's website here. Free mp3 downloads, so can't do much harm. He's a masterly singer/songerwriter. Vincent Black Lightning 1952 is a good track folks! http://www.richardthompson-music.com/audiodownloads.asp

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
    You better watch out
    There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
    What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo,m he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
    Master the art of karate
    Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Blasting and bubbling I fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

    Have you heard the news?
    The dogs are dead!
    You better stay home
    And do as you're told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.
You know, aliens are going to come to earth in 50 years and kill the hell out of us for DDoSing their networks with this SETI crap

    Entangledphoton,

Great live show - I saw it in Houston. Really stunning. They did a good job with the film adaptation too. They managed to bring in most of the original Broadway cast for it.

    PINK FLOYD - Dogs Lyrics

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes
    closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you
    get older
And in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
    Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've
    sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw
    around
So have a good drown, as you go down, alone
    Dragged down by the stone.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of
    this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the
    winner
And everythings done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.
Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a pat on the back
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Who was dragged down by the stone.

Ozzy Osbourne - Paranoid (Live @ Budokan)
    [start lyrics section]
Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind
people think I'm insane because I am Frowning all the time

All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify

    Can you help me?
    Occupy my brain?
    oh yeah

I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind

    [Solo]

Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal

And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it's too late

    [end lyrics section]

theres nothing like the crowd influence in the live version. it boosts the original song.
