I was under the impression that it wouldn't be too hard getting linux to run on Intel-Mac since:

    - The "Boot from EFI"-support has been available in the main kernel for a long time now

    - The intel x86-processors are well supported by Linux

    - The other hardware on the mac stays about the same as with PowerPC-Macs, and linux run on them

Feel free to prove me wrong

Source? I will not believe that Apple is dropping the price of any of their products until I see them on the shelf. I'm not saying this wouldn't be a great thiing, only that in the past Apple has shown it is not very willing to charge less than top dollar for any of its products, even when new ones come out that are supposedly "better".

My source was employees at the Apple Store, who were telling me that it might be better to wait for the Intel processors before buying the iBook, for this reason. I'll see if I can't find something online about it, though.

Hrmm...looking about online, I see nothing official from the company. My apologies then. I suppose we can hope, at least.

As for linux support it still worth distro producers to make their distro efi compatible. As even normal dells and other white box systems will end up using efi in the near future.

For the record, I stopped by the Apple Store today, and they said that, in fact, there will not be a price drop.

Which absolutely sucks. Maybe there'll be additional features in the Intel iBook to make up for it?
