As usual, thanks to everyone who participated in my OS poll
(
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53933)
I found the results to be pretty odd. Back in the day, machintosh used to be considered better/MorePopular then windows, but that quickly changed with windows 95. Considering this, it seems that the people on this forum, are divided into three main sections.
A good portion learned with a CLI based OS such as DOS, and have know how to use computers for a long time now.
Anouther good prortion claims to have learned with windows, i am assuming 95 or later (I only saw a few comments about windows 3.1).
And a third smaller group, learned with machintosh.
this strikes me as odd, because judging by our age poll our biggest individual group is composed of people are around 17. Since most people start to use computers at 4-5 years of age, then this means that most people on this forum first used their computers in 1992. This puts them in pre-windows territory. Why did they have windows then?
It seems that we have a black hole, when macs were more popular. Wierd.
It does make sense why DOS is the most popular, because, once again, judging by our age poll there are more people who are older than 20, than vice versa. This means that all the older generations mainly used DOS or some text based equivalent.
I was also dissapointed to see that no one had learned from linux (Maybe this will begin to happen in the next few years), and surprised to see that only one person learned from unix.
Any other thoughs or Comments on the 1st OS poll?
