    Blog Poll

    Hi,

We are thinking of adding a new blog section to the website. Each user would have his own blog, like, let's say, www.linuxforums.org/blogs/corewizard/ , each and every user registerred to the forums would have his own.

But I am backing off because of all the nonsense stuff that might be posted in the blogs, and I thought I would ask you guys, what do you say? Should I go for it or not?

    Thanks,
    Core Wizard.

I don't like the idea. The forums are like one huge blog anyway, so what would the point of seperate blogs be???

Yes, but the idea is, for each user to post his thoughts in his own blog, his stuff, his views, pictures, etc.

I'm not the blogger type so probably wouldn't use it myself, but I'm all for it if the majority want to do it.

Can't we already do that anyway? I've always hated the idea of blogs, so you're not going to see me jumping at the idea any time soon. Blogs, eventually, do add or remove anything from people's way of thinking because it's just 1 person's opinion. A forum format in the other had, helps people get through somethings that might be no one's fault but their own. How many times have you heard the: "Ubuntu sucks cause it doesn't have root enabled", or "I'm never going to use Debian again because it didn't install X", or even "Slackware sucks because even after I installed X it doesn't boot into it". In most cases all they had to do is pay more attention on the documentation. In all three examples I gave, people who posted it decided to give it a second try after hearing what people had to say.

Again, that's just my personal opinion. The last thing we need is people saying something sucks without even knowing how it works. And this doesn't just apply to the examples I gave, there's many more things out there.

I agree with bidi, there are already so many free blog sites i feel this would eb a pretty useless feature. Also, it would cause flame wars. Too many blogs already clog up the internet, why do we need them to clog up the site?

I voted no... As far I see it this is already a giant blog where you post your thoughts, questions, rants, etc. If anything I would open a distro review section where we all review distros and post our impressions with a rating. I saw this at another forum but can't remember where now... Those ratings were by far more representative in my opinion than the ones by expert linux gurus (e.g., distrowatch.) Sure, sometimes unfair reviews are posted but all in all reviews like those represent the true feelings of the people...

Anyway... I don't like the blog idea...

Not really. I have a blog anyway which isn't very good at the moment. I do tend to post my thoughts as other people have said, and I think some blogs are superb ... but most are not.

I voted no for the blog as I feel t could be to easily abused.
i.e. "Linux sucks and this is why"

I just feel that this could open a new can of worms.
I do like the distro review section however.
If anybody were allowed to post in it, it could be a problem, for the same reason as the blog.
But, if only people who had 100+ posts could post to that section. I feel it would be a great asset to the site.
