Hearing on Google data-sharing...
Date set for hearing on Google data-sharing
Full article: http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...s/13735129.htmThe hearing, to be held in U.S. District Court, will be the first in the high-profile case. The Justice Department is seeking to force the Mountain View company to comply with a subpoena seeking 1 million Web site addresses reached from Google and one week of search queries.
I don't support porn sites in any form or fashion, but do admire the Google folks for sticking to their guns on this. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.
- 01-28-2006 #2Last time I heard it was to help fight Terrorism (note capital `T'). Your government sure likes to cover all their bases when it comes to their intentions:[U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales] said the request isn't an invasion of privacy and will help fight Internet pornography.
Bush: Google's cache will help us put an end to homelessness. An end to world hunger. My departments will be enabled to protect every man woman and child from succumbing to diseases such as death, hiccups, left-handedness.
Anywho, yes, I agree, I'm glad google is fighting this. I believe the other search engines folded on this issue immediately.

Yes, others have folded.
The actual reason for this is that the government wants to determine how effective current Internet regulations are for preventing minors from accessing adult content.
Now, as an almost-18-year-old male, I can answer that question WITHOUT seeing search engine data: no, they don't. While I have no problem with porn, and I think that the government's attempts to make the entire Internet kid-safe are ridiculous, they could probably ask any high school male this question and get a better answer.
So yeah. Viva la Google!DISTRO=Arch

if kids want porn they'll get their older brother or friend to buy them it from the shop with their pocket money or something. using that data isnt gonna stop anything

Actually, he probably won't get beaten by a huge margin, since he can't run in the next Presidential election (2-term limit). The next election is 2008, by the way.
And it looks like Mark Warner may run for the Democrats, and he's been praised for being an exceptional governor, and is also known to work well with both sides of the aisle.DISTRO=Arch

Unfortunatly the US goverment has a rather hypocritical stance on corperations. The government will turn a blind eye to monopolies which in turn is an advantage. They'll even turn a blind eye to suposedly immoral things for christians such as genetic engenering(me thinks the apropriate term is power grabing).
But as soon as someone conflicts with their psudeo-christian morals which their corporation has nothing useful to offer to keep people off their back...they'll move in like a pack of vulturesAll i want for christmas is a new liver....a second chance to get afflicted with Cirrhosis

I COMPLETELY agree with you on that... I'm not against corporations at all, it's just that I want some regulations. A lot of them are getting really out of hand. They are just practical regulations. America's food industry is 'real bad... but there aren't any food regulations so we've got these weird food factories I'm sure you've all heard of. I'm worried about products losing their real value just to save money. Like companies here are getting SO CHEAP they can't even use real grapes or vanilla, they use these weird chemical flavors, I'm sure you've all heard of high fructose corn syrup that's making all our kids here fat. It's pathetic. And I'm like you on the christian values stuff, I don't really feel welcomed by the republican party anymore because I'm agnostic. All of the family values talk is really pretty corny, it's like I'm not a good citizen because I don't want a family. Unfortunately I don't have anybody else to vote for here, so I've always voted republican.
