Acer or Toshiba ?
HI
After a long and tiring research for buying a laptop just for programming and
running linux on it , I still feeling that to chose a laptop is a hard work that's
why I want your suggestions, I know that Toshiba made the best laptop (IBM
too but their laptop are too expensive),but they are expensive.
Maybe Acer more cheaper for the same features but of course they are
good not like Toshiba .
features needed:
+pentium M (1.6 Ghz)
+512 of RAM
+wifi (we have a free wifi access in our university )
I know that some guys will say " it depend on your money" that's ok ,but I
want to know the right choise money is not a problem if it is necessary I'll
wait for a few month to get it.

A while ago, I was helping one of my friends research laptops, and Acer definitely seems to be the best quality for the price. She bought one and hasn't had any problems since, though she's not a Linux user or a programmer.
In short, Acer sells great quality laptops at great prices. I'm not sure if it's Toshiba or IBM quality, but it definitely beats the pants off of similarly priced laptops.

you know i'm going to say acer

just try and avoid anything with PIIX hardware in it (whatever that is). it causes no end of troubles with linux distros. Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
