Arch seems to have a similar approach to Gentoo (start with little and build) so I gave it a shot.
I've been using it for a little over 2 months, after using Gentoo for 9 months, and really like it. I think this is the distro I'm sticking with for a long while

amazing
arch linux is my fav distro. the only thing though is cos its only a few years old it may have a buggy installation. 0.7 works perfectly but if u try 0.7.1 u will go into problems. u will be perfectly fine if u chosse to only install the base packages though and install the rest from pacman.

well....famous last words are...famous last words

Went through the install of *just* the base packages and started to run into some errors. I think it may be my fault though. I need to make sure I have the jumpers set right on the hard drives
It was late and I am sure I did something wrong along the way. Gonna give it another go tonight and see what happens.
The install was a lot similar to Slackware which I like.
Now...if I run into problems with the install should I just post the questions here or start a new thread? Start a new thread would probably be better.

Thanks for all the advice and stuff so far. It's nice to see a very active Linux board. I used to come here before the redo and it was good but not this good.
Thanks!

It does have that choice, when you choose a kernel choose "2.6 src" or something like that, it will extract the kernel sources to your arch install and let you switch vt and do the dirty work

- 02-09-2006 #19I tried that too...wow, are they ever strict with formatting. I was thrown off at first but I do realize that there has to be a level of conformity and consistency.
