http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...s/xx.html#Comm - World wide users although I would guess that the number is larger than that (~1 billion).

My guess is half are connected at any one time.

I have no idea...that is a hard stat to calculate.

By the way, why do you want to know this?

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...defs.html#2153 - That is their definition for internet users.

    One he** of a lot.

Also, do you count servers? Because computer users =! computers (when talking about the net). I'm sure many people here have more than one computer hooked up to the net at any given time... And come to think of it, my I can surf the net with my mobile phone.

For the fun of it, I checked the statistics for my country, Slovenia. At the beginning of 2005, 87% of households had at least one mobile phone, 60% of households had at least one computer, 48% had internet access (half of those had broadband). That's a year ago and the internet statistics have jumped since then, mainly due to more telcos offering broadband for quite low costs....

All in all, there are just a ton of variables to consider.

Exactly...this is an impossible stat to calculate because it changes daily and then you have to consider what is 'connected to the internet'.

curiosity killed the cat and satisfaction brought it back.
think i heard that in Dolan's Cadillac. A short story by Stephen King. Can be read in Nightmares and Dreamscapes, a collection of short stories. If i didn't hear it in that book, I definitely heard it from a King book.

i have 3 computers hooked up to the internet 24/7 i agree it would be a vast but not uncountable number i think to be "hooked up to the internet" cell phones/PDAs would also count
