Free Linux eBooks
Here are some links to lots of free online books for any of you that might be interested in them:
http://www.pctech101.com/pcebooks.php
Note that some of the ebook links toward the bottom of the page aren't free, but there are plenty of free books for the downloading.
Have fun!

Erm...are these legal? O'Reilly books published just last December don't seem like a legit download...

Don't know for sure, but they don't seem to be too worried about it, as they say it's okay to give out the page URL to the downloads.

- 02-22-2006 #7I doubt that would help. I'd rather send an email to the publishers of the books to ask THEM if what this site is offering violates any of their copyrights. I imagine asking the site themselves might result in an outright lie. "Suuuuuure it's legal. Download away."

Yeah, probably always better to go directly to the source rather than ask here. With all this various web download and licensing stuff getting so complicated these days, I don't really know what's legal and/or illegal.

For the record, a lot of companies operate in countries that don't prosecute this sort of stuff on behalf of companies from other places. These guys seem to offer selling you some books(for which I suspect they have some sort of distribution deal or they think they can make some money off it) but giving most away. They also seem to be in the market of burning and selling Linux distros like SUSE Enterprise for $15 - somehow doesn't seem kosher. AFAIK you aren't supposed to recharge for free downloads(and Enterprise certainly has a tryme version for download, but it's free. Subscribing isn't - I get the bill every year.

I think this company operates out of the United States, but I'm not sure. I also noticed on their website that they have quite a few well known affiliates, one of which includes the SUSE forums, but I don't know much about them other than what's shown on their website.
