I'm a newbie
I'm going to buy the new linux handheld machine gp2x from the gp2xshop.com and I was wondering what I should think about when buying one. Any specific
accessories that I need, software updates or extra hardware...

I hear a lot of good things about them and was recently almost tempted. I think most of what you need is in the kit, buy the extra SD card (there's a media value pack or something - should be a TV out too in it). The trick is that you can do a lot as a regular user, but a hell of a lot if you're willing to tweak. As a recommendation I would say zsnes and neo geo emulators will be dog slow, maybe not worth it, but emulators for earlier platforms will be great (vice 64 etc). Divx players too will be good.
I hear you should steer clear of bios flashed for them as they are community generated. A bad flash will stop you being able to reflash it or worse
This is the obvious link - great stuff here GP2X downloads
Enjoy it and do post back with how you get on.
(Just as a sidenote try not to double post in the forums. If people know they will answer, but double posts seem to get less results

I seem to remember a thread about this a while back. The main thing keeping me from picking one up is software. Read: games.
Yes, they make it quite clear that the GP2X will play emulators for various systems. The key piece of information they gloss over is where you get the ROMs to run on those emulators. If you live in a country with lax or non-existent copyright law, you're fine. Otherwise the rest of the law-abiding world (including all residents of the USA) are left wondering just what on Earth would we use this thing for?
I have a Nintendo DS. I have a Gameboy Advance. I have an Apple iPod. I don't need the GP2X. That being said, I hope you enjoy it.

I've often said the thing it's missing is storage. Much like the PSP. It does play your Divx and MP3/Ogg Vorbis but really if you have to keep swapping SD cards or reloading music everyday then it's a nuisance. But for some retro game play, 1GB goes a long way. You could probably get 600 C64 games into 200MB. Then add some NES, Atari 2600, Amiga.......
Even a 4 or 8GB disc would be sweet. Actually....Extension memory for mobile devices
