Playing with distros is very, very cool. However, I would suggest a different avenue of research like that of putting linux on a usb flash drive and being able to boot from it alone, embedded on top of Linux or on top of Windows. The idea is basically to be able to move work with you on a stick and perhaps buying an old laptop to make it operable just for fun... I have been toying with dsl (damn small linux) for quite a while and even purchased one of their memory sticks for the sake of contributing. Another similar distro would be puppy linux which fits in 64 MB...

Opening this on an airplane, stickng a flash drive on it, then starting dsl, playing some games, working with open office... What's cooler than that?]
I am also considering a basic problem: How to set up a receptionist while I am on the Internet to take care of incoming telephone calls?-D-

I've been messing with DSL and Knoppix for quite some time. I have an embedded DSL on my flashdrive, but I mainly use the LiveCDs. They work great on my computer - but the CDs don't boot on the majority of computers I try. They are definitely very useful tools, though, and they are def. worth a little research/practice.
