I know this is going to sound weird, but I would prefer doing it the old way, that way you get to see everything that is happening. That was the greatness of Gentoo.

My opinions will be posted in my review of it... which should be coming up any day now.

I haven't seen the new 2006.0 installer.
But, I did use the 2005.1 GLI.
It took me 3 or 4 times, but I did get it to finish without errors.
Whereas my first time installing Gentoo, I probably redid it 10-15 times.
Now I can do it every time without error.
Haven't tried to redo the GLI since I got it to work.How to know if you are a geek.

Generally speaking, Gentoo is far too time intensive for my needs and tastes, so I've not installed it with the new installer yet, although I have downloaded it already. My guess is that I'll continue to like the old way of installing it better, as there's something about text based installers that just appeals to me.
Anyway, I'll report back with more of an opinion once I've had the spare time needed to install it.oz

I tried it a few months ago, the old way was best regarding most things, but one thing got me: I love the new USE-flag editor! There are like thousands of USE-flags, in addition to the ones listed (like for example the useflag -joystick and nojoystick both have to be called to remove joystick support from different packages
)
It wouldn't start installing when I tried it thou, so I just took the USE-flag part out of the config file it made...

I'll have to try it again on their next release. The installer didn't work at all for me, graphically or command-line. For more detail on my trials, read my review of it.
