Talking Would you believe, when I first used Linux...

I thought my command prompt was trying to verbally abuse me. Each time I saw
    Code:
    bash: command not found
it sounded like the OS was bashing whatever it was I had typed.

Only later did I learn about the C shell, Korn shell, Bourne shell, and my friendly neighborhood Bourne-Again shell.

What are some other people's noobisms?

if i typed a grub entry incorrectly and got a "kernel panic" i assumed my system was done for and that this was a horrible mistake, possibly hard drive related...the "panic" really did make me panic though

now i know it's just that i typed something wrong in grub and i can fix it with a livecd and some patience
