- 03-18-2006 #41God that's terrible! That reminds me of something my ex once told me about his brother & sister-in-law having 5 cats & a German Shepherd dog. My ex had to go round one day and help clear up the mess after the dog massacred all of them in the garden. I'd never have any dog like that with my cats, even if some are supposedly 'nice natured' breeds.

i dont hate dogs but i do dislike one breed that is popular where i live. Pit Bulls they are nasty vicious dogs that about once a month get reported on in the news for having attacked and or killed a child. everytime this happens i get disgusted at the city for not banning the breed. the red necks that own them state that its not the dog but how they are raised which doesnt seem to discount that the dog in question that committed the attack was raised as a family pet and attacked either the family kid or the neighbors kids. they tried a statewide ban but the group that protects them initiated legislation some years ago disallowing a specific breed ban. only one city was excluded because they had already banned the breed before the legislation was initiated. everyelse especially the city i live in are stuck with a dangerous time bomb everynow and again leaving people mamed or killed.
the same red necks that breed the dogs also like raising roosters for cock fighting, which according to them is a heritidge. they banned cock fighting here but they try to lift some of the restrictions to keep doing it. which is messed up because gambling is illegal here and the only reason to do such a thing is to bet on it.

Yeah, this reminds me of where I was brought up (in rural Lincolnshire) when a Rottweiler attacked a Lincoln man as he was walking home. The dogs have a huge bite pressure and seem to go for the face and neck.
The man I'm talking about had the front of his face torn off, completely removing his nose. The local press published a picture of him, and I'll never forget it. Swedish 'Rottys' aren't quite so aggressive, but they were bred as attack dogs, and why people keep them as pets I'll never know. If a dog gets jealous it could attack.
I wouldn't sleep at night with one of those in the house.
This article tries to give a balanced view.

i have read articles of people that have mountain lions as pets, here in the US, that the mountain lion attacked the owners. i just never saw how you would want to have an animal that threatens your safety as a pet. the likely hood that a house cat can eat your face off or a beagle that could kill a child of 5 is so remote. but to willingly keep an animal that can take down prey twice thier size or bigger would deliver you to the common sense conclusion that you need not have them as a pet. i dont think it should be illegal to have a mountain lion as a pet only for the fact that eating the owner would be the sweetest form of natural selection. the rotty's are kept as pets here as well. they are working class dogs and shouldnt be kept as pets.
