you mean the FC5 Test 3? because the final FC5 doesn't come out until March 20

Is it 5 already. Doesn't seem like six months since I was downloading RedHat 7.2...

Here is the fedora[url#http://fedora.redhat.com/About/schedule/] Calander[/url]
As you can see it is not released. But i would imagine FC5t3 is quite stable...

there's an interesting article here which happens to mention a slight twist to FC5 which is shipping on 20th march.
Fedora core 5 will (temporarily) break non-GPL modules
Many Fedora users are anxiously waiting for the Fedora Core 5 release, scheduled for Monday, March 20. Be warned that some of you may have to wait a little longer, however: the kernel shipped with FC5 effectively disallows the loading of any non-GPL modules. That behavior was a mistake, and a fix has already been made, but it is too late to get that fix into the initial FC5 release. So binary module users will want to wait until the first errata kernel is released (a few days, at most) before upgrading.

Before I even consider trying FC 5 I need to see Techimoe's bee-atching, er, review
and more opinions... I might not even try it as I am happy with Ubuntu 5.10 and I see no reason to get in trouble...

I tryed Fedora Core 5 (test 3) about two weeks ago on my laptop (Asus Z63A) and was happily surprised by the great hardware detection.
I'm a Debian fan so I don't care two much about Fedora, but it did impress me.
I now have the final Fedora Core 5 DVD in my hands, with the intention of installing it (for real) on one of my systems.
My first thoughts about it...
Pros:
-excellent hardware detection
-overall quality, feel, look and homogeneity
-bleeding edge packages
-anaconda installer: i think i like it
Cons:
-default install far too big in size
-netinstaller inferior to Debian one (no list of ftp/http server to choose from, need to enter one manualy)
-yum (apt-get is much faster, and has better dependency checking)
But hey, as I said I pretty much never used Fedora before."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

I'm on FC5 now, I like it so far. It seems clean and stable, and noticably faster than 4.
One thing I didn't like was the simplicity of the install, not a whole lot of choices.
Nvidia drivers and stuff tomorrow!
- 03-22-2006 #10Hum, due to the Fedora Core 5 kernel not accepting non-GPL modules, you will find that installing nvidia proprietary driver is a bit harder then it would normally. Take a look here for a install guide.
