Windows can even be harder to get working than linux. I put linux on my brothers computer because of financial concerns. The learning curve was a bit steep for him as he is not even remotely interested in computers he just uses them for some of his work. He recently purchased windows xp and loaded it back onto his computer. 2 days later he called me and asked me to put linux back on! He evidently liked k3b more than nero...that was the selling point for him And also he didn't want to have to install all of his driver cds when linux autodetected all of his hardware.
    Operating System: GNU Emacs

Someone new to Linux might want to know about risk free ways to try it, like a "Live" Knoppix CD that doesn't need to be installed and that would only need to keep a configuration file on their PC (if they wanted to save their settings).
Same person might also want to know about an equivalent to batch files -- since many are likely intimidated by having to type in a lot of commands.

So the question is ... Is Windows ready for the desktop yet?
