I Hit a Deer
OK I was driving to take my little sister out to dinner last night (in the middle of the city) and I saw what i think would make a great logo for some version of linux. I'm not smart enough to write it, but it's a deer Booking it across a major highway looking up with big ol bug eyes.
The rest of the story is that the deer didn't make it and my truck got beat up pretty bad and sadly i realized how redneck i was when my first thought was "I don't have a knife or a cooler"
anyway i just thought i'd share.Desktop: Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz 1.5 GB RAM Ubuntu/XP Pro

The biggest thing I've hit in any of my vehicles was a very unlucky rabbit. I've inadvertently sent a few squirrels and pigeons to their maker as well.

before the deer the only thing i'd ever hit were armadillos or as we called them growing up Possums on the Half Shell

I hope you are both ok.
Reading this reminded me of the night about 5 years ago when I was driving home on a 2 lane mountain road after the last day of Elk season in Colorado. I had a doe walk right into the street just in front of my truck. I was sure I was going to hit it, and didn't want to swerve only to risk having the deer move again and then really be in trouble (risk of rolling). I hit the breaks as hard as I could in an attempt to limit the damage when I hit it, and was preparing to let off the breaks as soon as I felt the impact to not loose controll of the truck. I've never hit the breaks so hard in my life and ended up with my whole body not touching the seat, just held in place by the seat belt. When the truck stopped, I was maybe 6 inches away from that doe (all I could see was the top of her head over the hood)... She gave me a look and just wandered back out of the road.

I ran over a squirrel once and it had its mate with it. At least I assume it was its mate ... might have just been a casual aquaintance. Or maybe it was a first date?
I still feel bad about it.
I can't remember where I buried it.
