De Niro was also very good in the remake of Cape Fear, the original of which also starred Robert Mitchum.

I have to admit I pay much more attention to the over-all film than individual actors or actresses. I liked Goodfellas and the grizzly Sleepers with DiNero.
I liked Sean Penn in Bad Boys and State of Grace. I have been advised to read the book V for Vendetta but I am reluctant to do so because a book tends to be deeper and more emotional than a film.
With special effects and computer enhancement serious acting has taken a back seat in modern movies.
- 04-13-2006 #23I think that's true, but have you ever watched any so-called 'world cinema'? The best films are no longer made by Hollywood but are the ones coming from the rest of planet earth. I've found that just by going to a place that rents those dvds and selecting ones you like the look of, you get wonderful and challenging films to watch.

Now that you mention it, Fingal I have been dragged to some of Manhattan's " Art " cinemas by female friends and I have indeed seen some great foreign films but subtitles are not my cup of tea. Renting subtitled DVD's is something I never contemplated doing. It is, however, a wonderful idea. Could you E-mail me some title suggestions, please?? Thank You!!
