De Niro was also very good in the remake of Cape Fear, the original of which also starred Robert Mitchum.

I have to admit I pay much more attention to the over-all film than individual actors or actresses. I liked Goodfellas and the grizzly Sleepers with DiNero.

I liked Sean Penn in Bad Boys and State of Grace. I have been advised to read the book V for Vendetta but I am reluctant to do so because a book tends to be deeper and more emotional than a film.

I think that's true, but have you ever watched any so-called 'world cinema'? The best films are no longer made by Hollywood but are the ones coming from the rest of planet earth. I've found that just by going to a place that rents those dvds and selecting ones you like the look of, you get wonderful and challenging films to watch.

I don't like the phrase 'world cinema' though ... I mean: we all live in the world and it implies that there's Hollywood, then there's the world. Over the last couple of years I've seen films from China, Japan, Australia, Finland, Spain ... you name it. Not everyone likes subtitles, but once you get over that it's a great ride.

Now that you mention it, Fingal I have been dragged to some of Manhattan's " Art " cinemas by female friends and I have indeed seen some great foreign films but subtitles are not my cup of tea. Renting subtitled DVD's is something I never contemplated doing. It is, however, a wonderful idea. Could you E-mail me some title suggestions, please?? Thank You!!

Thank You for the list Fingal. I do not know if my replies to your messages are reaching you because after I send them I am asked to log in again to LinuxForums.
