I can already tell that someone is already going call me a TROLL which is typical for a person suffering from linux paranoia just for sharing a different point of view. Criticize me and you prove me right, but agree with me and you just might prove me wrong.
Are you referring to a specific thread or person on this forum? I've not noticed any bad behavior lately. Are you speaking of the community in general or this forum in particular? If the former, why bring it up?

So far, it's been a drop-and-run post, with everyone weighing in on how tolerant and wonderful we are. Seems pretty trollish to me, despite the disclaimer. As already mentioned, Linux users are no more or no less rude than any group of people gathered together over a common interest. I'm a fairly friendly person, but I have my days. TechieMoe is usually friendly, unless someone casts dispersions on AppleCorps.

Yes true. I think I'll leave this one alone from now on. I found this interesting.

people are right when they have mentioned that there will always be a few bad apples(no pun intended, techieMoe ) in any barrel. thats human nature. it applies to linux users, linux forums, apple mac forums, windows forums, hifi forums, music forums, and probably even The Society of Peace and Tranquility . any gathering together of people is bound to have at least 1 - its called human dynamics.

fingal did you click on the link for that kid who killed himself( on the troll wikipedia) there were also links to two other trolls that had killed themselves in extreme behavior. i am starting to think the original poster needs help after reading about them. the trolling behavior might lead to worse self destructive life style choices.

No but that's interesting. I'll take a look at that this evening. Sometimes I think the Net is like a mirror ... you know? You look into it and see aspects of your own personality. That might sound weird but I've seen the Net used by people who obviously have a lot of hang-ups ...

So who knows? Maybe someone who's abusive like that is really calling for help ... Or maybe that's just a wishy washy view of things: not sure. Actually I agree with you. I think that the behaviour can lead to worse choices being made.

Did you ever wonder if the guy in teh Other end was extrmely rude and telling you to RTFM because he didn't know the answer to the question you were asking ? I've often wondered why someone would expend allthe effert to insult you tell you to RTFM and give you all sorts of grief when providing the answer mightr be as simple as a couple words ..

way back when I first started using Linux the 'support' I used was mainly IRC.. If I've heard RTFM once I've heard it 10,000 times.. I was inquiring about ipchains one day and was having trouble finding the name of the defaul tchains. (we all start somewhere) I was rudely informed to RTFM, so I did, twice, but didn't see what I was looking for , I went back to the channel and asked again and was insulted and told to RTFM. I read it again and still didn't see wha tI was looking for.. part of the problem being I wasnt sure exactly what I weas lookig for or what it would look like when I found it.. the simple answer to my question would have been INPUT, FORWARD, and OUTPUT which would have taken far less effort than was put into insuting me and being rude..

That's what makes me wonder if the rude guy even knew the answer to begin with.. makes one wonder at times..

That about sums up this thread. Every community has them, some more than others. This forum tries its best to be as close to an "a-hole-free zone" as possible. If anyone has specific issues regarding something that was said to them that they found offensive, address it to the mods and we'll handle it. As it is, I don't see this thread going anywhere constructive.
